SPECIAL PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN
Project COOL After-School Program
Grand Street's Project COOL is a pioneer in providing community-based
academic support to low-income children. The creative literacy
curriculum embraces an interactive approach to learning and teaching.
It includes a full range of academic and cultural enrichment,
recreation, and leadership development activities for approximately 100
children, ages 6–12. Project COOL employs a learner-centered approach,
engaging students in activities that tap their interests and increase
their ability. Project COOL builds the children's academic skills and
self-confidence — the foundation for improved school performance.

1925 Grand Street Settlement's Camp
Moodna, founded in 1925, helped Lower East Side families to escape the
summer heat. Today's day camp still offers kids opportunities for
swimming, sailing and outdoor recreation.

Summer Day Camp
The Summer Day Camp is a long-standing tradition and a vital part of
the Settlement's programming. The Summer Camp provides approximately
175 children with an array of stimulating educational and recreational
activities for seven weeks each summer, in a safe and nurturing
environment. The youngsters engage in interactive educational
activities that allow them to continue to learn and grow academically
during their summer vacation. This helps to prevent summer "learning
loss" for those youngsters already struggling academically during the
school year. The children build their skills and develop new interests
through art projects, sports, games, and field trips to fascinating
sites around New York City. The Camp also gives the children the
opportunity to form positive relationships with caring adults and older
adolescents who serve as mentors and assistant counselors.
