JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the
education and child development component of the Early Head Start Program which
provides comprehensive services to low income families with children under the
age of three. Work as part of the
management team to conduct planning, execution and evaluation of program
services to take into account the social, emotional, developmental, and health
needs of children under the age of three
in both the center-based and home-based program options
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE
AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Infant/ Toddler CDA or a
Commitment to acquire it within one of employment
·
Experience with children under 3 years of age;
·
Good interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to
work as part of a team; communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
receive and provide feedback, and manage dynamic interchanges in meetings
·
An understanding of the Head Start philosophy and ability to implement
its principle of shared authority and decision making
·
Experience working with children and families with special
developmental, educational and social needs
·
Bi-lingual a plus; Chinese preferred
·
Supervisory experience preferred
The ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES of the
Education Coordinator, under the supervision of the Early Head Start
Director, include but are not limited to:

In collaboration with management staff, provide guidance and leadership
in the overall operation of the program in accordance with the Head Start
Program Performance Standards, the New York City Department of Health and
Mental Hygiene regulations and Grand Street Settlement policies and procedures
·
Work in partnership with the management staff of the Grand Street
Settlement Head Start
·
In collaboration with the Director and content specialists, monitor the
provision of a comprehensive and child- centered service delivery system in
areas related to health, safety, nutrition, mental health and parent
involvement
·
Provide guidance and training to teachers and home visitors in
mastering the curriculum and assessment tools utilized by the EHS program
·
Monitor the recordkeeping and reporting of the child development and
education component, including documentation of individualized child planning,
developmental and behavioral screening and ongoing assessment
·
Collaborate with teachers in establishing and maintaining a center- based
program environment that promotes social- emotional well being, positive child
outcomes and parent involvement
·
Collaborate with content area specialists to ensure appropriate service
delivery to address children’s individual needs
·
Observe children to provide guidance and assist the staff in the
development of individualized plans based on program philosophy and practices
·
Meet with teachers and home visitors on a weekly basis to conduct supervision including a review of
child development documentation
·
Establish working relationships with individual staff members that is
responsive to their professional development needs
·
Establish relationships with parents to facilitate a collaboration that
fosters their child’s development as well as promoting their role as advocates
·
Participate in the hiring, orientation and ongoing training process for
Early Head Start staff
·
Assist in providing orientation for program interns and volunteers
·
Assist in the identification, development and coordination of staff training
plans
·
