POSITION:                          Group Teacher 

DEPARTMENT:                  Early Childhood Services - Bushwick

REPORTS TO:                    Child & Family Center Director

SALARY  RANGE:             As per Union Contract & Credentials

JOB SUMMARY: Supervises the planning and execution of a program to provide day care for children which takes into account the educational, social, developmental and health needs of the group, as well as the individual child.

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

·         MA/MS/ in Education

·         Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education/Special Education

·         A New York State Teaching Certificate in Early Childhood Education/Elementary Education

·         Supervised practice teaching 47.13c.1

·         Courses mandated by New York City Health Code Article 47.13.c.2

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Responsible for keeping equipment and material accessible and in good condition

·         Removes or reports any damaged or hazardous equipment to the Director

·         Plans and supervises an appropriate arrangement of his/her own classroom furniture to promote optimal program functioning

·         Shares in the overall planning for the best use of shared space in relation to the total center program

·         Plans the use of community resources to enrich the educational content of the children’s program

·         Develops a program of sound educational goals

·         Shares with classroom associates their mutual knowledge and understanding of the sponsoring agency and the community which their center serves

·         Responsible for the professional growth and development of the classroom associates through regularly scheduled individual and classroom group conferences based on daily observation of the associate’s performance within the group and their applications of new skills as required through training and experience

·         In cooperation with the director, assists with the annual evaluation of the job performance of the classroom associates

·         Takes responsibility for an equitable sharing among all classroom personnel relating to all areas of the program

·         Develops an appropriate plan by which information concerning the children and program can be shared with the parent

·         Participates in group parent meetings

·         Respect the confidential nature of all information about parents and children

·         Plans and conducts regular group conferences with classroom associates

·         Responsible for required documentation and record keeping

·         Other duties as assigned
